York Residents to Weigh in on Curbside Solid Waste & Recycling

The York Department of Public Works, in association with the York Recycling Committee, will be seeking input from a random selection of York residents on the issue of curbside waste and recycling for the Town of York.

Drawing from a data base of voters who participated in the November 2022 election, a short survey will be mailed out asking residents their opinions on important aspects regarding current and future collection options of curbside waste and recycling.

The Town of York currently contracts with Cassella Waste Systems Inc., for the weekly curbside collection and disposal of solid waste, bulky waste and the biweekly collection of recyclable materials. York charges a flat fee for curbside trash and recycling that is included in a resident’s property tax bill. The current seven-year contract with Cassella expires on June 30, 2024.

The survey asks for resident’s input on such options as Pay as You Throw, New Rolling Cart/Bags Programs, Food Composting as well as thoughts/usage of York’s current curbside service and the Recycle and Composting facility on Witchtrot Road. The survey, along with other available information, will help evaluate the existing program and provide insight to resident’s interest in other options.

Survey recipients are asked to return the survey by the end of October to give the York Department of Public Works and the York Recycling Committee time to present their recommendations to the Select Board.
