Most York residents have reason to visit Town Hall at one time or another and when they do, chances are they’ve been fortunate to interact with Lynn Osgood.

Lynn began her career here as Assistant Town Clerk in 2019 and was elected to her current role in 2021. Her job description includes the dual titles of Town Clerk and Tax Collector. In addition to collecting taxes, she and her staff’s many responsibilities include issuing car, boat, ATV, and hunting licenses, parking and transfer station user permits, voter registration, overseeing and executing proper election protocols, processing absentee ballots, as well as keeping track of vital town stats like births, deaths, and marriages.

Being on the front lines of so many resident interactions, Lynn enjoys meeting and getting to know York residents. Lynn proudly states, “I like seeing the big picture as it relates to the town. Every day is different with so many details that have to be completed. I don’t leave until everything is done…and done right!” She relishes her role and seems genuinely excited by whatever challenges the day brings. “I have a great team to work with and because I care so much about the town, it just seems natural for me.”

Born and raised in York, Lynn’s roots run deep. She is a ninth-generation York resident who happens to be married to a 12th-generation York resident. Further still, the land where they and their children live was given to her husband’s family by the King of England!

When asked about what she liked best about living in York, Lynn talked about the natural beauty of the area and the very real sense of community she experiences. “York is such a welcoming community, a safe community. You can really feel it and you can see so many examples of it.”

In addition to her many job responsibilities, volunteering at community events, and raising a family, Lynn is also working on her Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

When asked about hobbies, Lynn shared that she lives on a small farm with 35 chickens, three goats, five cats, and a dog and that she loves being at home with her animals. She also likes to read, loves the outdoors, would like to travel and loves going to listen to live music.

As the interview wound down, Lynn shared a humorous insight regarding the new Town Hall that spoke volumes about her personality and how she sees her role. She was asked about what she would need regarding her own personal office. Without skipping a beat, she flatly refused the idea of her own office and made it clear she wanted to be out in the public space to see, interact and serve York residents who depend on her and what her department provides.
