Have you been out and about in York lately and seen those squiggly lines in the pavement and wondered what they were?

It’s called crack seal and last week we brought in a specialized team of contractors to apply it on pavement cracks throughout York.

During the application process a high-pressure hose line is used to spread an adhesive, fiber modified asphalt sealant to fill the cracks.

This material offers flexibility as seasons change and prevents moisture from getting inside cracks and freezing in winter which then creates bigger cracks and potholes.

This annual road maintenance service is supervised by DPW and is a cost-effective way to extend pavement life and prevent larger maintenance projects down the road.
