The Maine Chapter of the American Public Works Association (MCAPWA) held its 30th annual Highway Congress on Thursday, June 1 at theSkowhegan Fairgrounds in Skowhegan.

The event was an impressive gathering of state and municipal public works’ crews, demonstrations of heavy-duty machines, representatives from manufacturers of accessories and safety equipment as well as a competitive Snow Plow Rodeo where top driver teams from throughout the state navigated a challenging obstacle course in trucks supplied by the Maine Turnpike Authority.
York DPW team members in attendance enjoyed the opportunity to meet crew members from other towns, see the latest mechanical and technological advances available, and gain valuable information and insights on better serving their communities.

Heavy Duty Demos Too
In the designated try-out area, DPW members also got to try some valuable hands-on experience with many of the larger excavators that were at the event. This area was populated with equipment from several manufacturers which allowed for side-by-side comparisons, information and insights from company representatives.

Although it was a long day in the hot sun this year, when asked, DPW team members all felt it was productive and a worthwhile event to attend.
