Diesel Mechanic, Anthony Parrotta Recently Gained His CDL or Commercial Driver’s License.

In another example of how York DPW promotes teamwork and achievement, Diesel Mechanic, Anthony Parrotta recently gained his CDL or Commercial Driver’s License. Hired just a year ago, Anthony quickly demonstrated his desire and mechanical skills to become a key, go-to resource in the DPW garage.

“Anthony has always shown his ability from day one and someone I could rely on to do a good job on what’s needed here.” said Anthony’s boss and Fleet Supervisor, Matt Gray. “It was expected at the time we hired Anthony that he’d get his CDL. It’s a requirement to have one at DPW.”

To further illustrate the commitment to obtaining this licensing, DPW budgeted for funds to pay for Anthony’s Class-B license. Anthony then used his own money to pay for classes and training to secure a Class-A CDL license as well.

So, over the summer of 2023, Anthony attended CDL Driver Training classes every day at the Northeast Technical Institute in Scarborough, Maine from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program featured both classroom lessons and hands-on driving exercises that included maneuvers and obstacle courses behind the wheel of the big 18-wheel semis. “It definitely wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be.” said Anthony thinking back on his training.

To complete his training and receive his license, Anthony had to pass both a written and a driving test. “I passed the driving test on the first try!” Anthony beamed when asked.

It was not long after, on August 30, 2023, the reality of the endeavor sunk in for Anthony when he received his official CDL license. Now he can rightfully and legally operate any of the vehicles in the DPW fleet which will also give him the opportunity to expand his role at DPW.

Anthony has been a great addition to the DPW team and having another member with a CDL license will help the Department overall in maintaining the quality service York residents have come to expect. When asked about his thoughts regarding the whole experience, Anthony paused and said, “I’m really glad they (DPW) took a chance on me.” We couldn’t agree more!
