The sights and sounds of the holiday season are upon us, and here at the York DPW, we’re proud to be a part of a tradition that honors our community’s fallen heroes.
This morning, a semitrailer from the national Wreaths Across America convoy pulled up to our Route 1 facility, carrying a very special cargo. Packed inside were beautiful wreaths destined for the graves of veterans laid to rest at First Parish Church’s Cemetery here in York.
A team of over a dozen DPW employees and dedicated volunteers were eagerly awaiting the truck’s arrival. Together, they unloaded box after box, carefully stacking the wreaths inside the facility for safekeeping.
Join Us in Honoring Our Fallen This Saturday
The DPW crew will be busy bees in the coming days, ensuring these wreaths arrive at the First Parish Church Cemetery ahead of the special wreath-laying ceremony scheduled for this Saturday, December 14th at noon.
The ceremony promises to be a moving tribute. A dedication will be delivered, followed by the reading of select passages honoring the sacrifices made by fallen heroes from each branch of the military. After the playing of taps, attendees will find the wreaths spread throughout the cemetery, ready to be placed on the headstones and markers of our fallen veterans.
Be a Part of Wreaths Across America
We encourage everyone to join us in honoring these brave men and women who served our country. If you’d like to learn more about the national Wreaths Across America program, please visit their website at wreathsacrossamerica.org.
Together, let’s ensure a hero is never forgotten this holiday season.
