York Department of Public Works took delivery of a new Broom Badger from Elgin Sweeper. This maneuverable, powerful and efficient mechanical sweeper not only has best-in-class features, it’s also lighter and consumes less fuel when operating.
The comfortable cab over chassis design features spot mirrors, low-cut windows and a color dash-mounted monitor to give the operator exceptional visibility over the components, operating distances, surrounding traffic and road conditions for increased safety.
The unit’s short 109” wheelbase and tight 16’9 turning radius also gives it exceptional maneuverability for York’s side streets and cul-de-sacs.
The Broom Badger features large dual side brooms that can be elevated and tilted with fingertip controls from the cab. The large debris hopper holds four cubic yards of collected debris and can be extended up to 10 feet vertically for easy emptying.
Advanced hydraulic and electrical operating systems offer greater simplicity, easier maintenance, lower heat build-up and reliability.
Lastly, the sweeper is equipped with a 220-gallon polyethylene water tank dust suppression system where multiple, carefully positioned water nozzles suppress dust while sweeping.
DPW is already deploying this vehicle throughout York to keep the town’s streets and public parking areas clean. Look for it in action during the summer and into the fall.
